There are a few tools that you must have in order to provide professional window cleaning results for your customers windows. Along with hand tools like scrubbers, squeegees, maybe abrasives for stubborn dirt, towels and a few other miscellaneous items, you will need water available in order to refresh your scrubbers. Sounds simple and clear, right? But where to you place the buckets while working?

    THE STRATEGIC PLACEMENT

This seemingly minor decision makes a huge difference in your overall workflow and the quality of your results. Here are some tips to consider:

    1. Accessibility: Choose a spot that is easily accessible from all the windows you intend to clean. This minimizes the time you spend moving back and forth, ensuring a smoother workflow. The goal is to maximize efficiency without compromising on the quality of your work. This does NOT mean moving the bucket every time you move to a different window. Consider the use of a “Hip bucket” like the Unger Bucket on a Belt. This will provide you with a place to stow and carry your wet scrubber WITHOUT having to place your larger bucket of solution near every glass you clean. These tools are available with a wide variety of features and have become an ESSENTIAL tool to have in your pro window cleaning tool box.

    2. Central Location: Opt for a central location that allows you to work around the windows in a logical sequence. Starting from the center and moving outwards, or from the top floors to the bottom. This can help you maintain an organized approach and reduce the chances of missing a window.

    3. Stability: Ensure that the surface where you place your bucket is stable and level. Uneven surfaces can lead to spills or accidents, causing damage to your cleaning solution, tools, or even the flooring. Most old timers tell us they avoid placing the bucket on anything elevated. Keep it solid and simple, as low and stable as possible. Extra tip – if it is appropriate and will help the customer to have confidence in your service, place a thick, plush towel or even a bath mat under your bucket. This can be a small way to show the client that you respect their job site.

    4. Safety First: When you’re working, always prioritize safety. Make sure the bucket is placed away from high traffic areas, pathways, doorways and DON’T FORGET to position the bucket so that pets can not get into your stuff! Safety should always be a top priority in any professional window washing endeavor. Extra tip – If you feel like there is no time to prioritize safety because you need to move too fast- consider that maybe you did not quote the job properly. Allowing an extra 5-10% work time on a site in your bid should be plenty to provide you with time to double check, plan and execute in a safe manor.

    6. Proper Mixing: If your cleaning solution requires dilution, consider having a separate area for mixing your solution. This prevents spills near your working area and ensures accurate measurements for a consistent cleaning outcome. Water first, then add solution. But it makes sense to mix your solution away from your work area. The concentrated chemical might as well be kept away from the work area if at all possible.

    7. Minimal Footprint: Keep in mind that your working space might be limited, especially if you’re working indoors. Opt for a solution bucket that doesn’t take up too much space, yet holds an adequate amount of solution to minimize refills.

    8. Environmental Considerations: When you’re cleaning window, be mindful of where your cleaning solution might flow and how this appears to the customer. Avoid letting chemical-laden water enter storm drains or gardens. Most all the solutions we sell and that are used by pro window washers are safe and do no environmental harm. However, appearances do matter! Take the time to think this through. There is nothing as counterproductive as providing great, perfect windows and then to have the customer become uncomfortable with where you dispose of your dirty bucket of water.

    THE TAKEAWAY

Placing your solution bucket might seem like a small detail, but it can make a significant difference in the quality and efficiency of your window cleaning process. By choosing a strategic and accessible location, you’ll streamline your workflow, reduce the risk of accidents, and achieve streak-free, sparkling windows that bring renewed clarity to your living spaces.

Remember, professional window washing is not just about cleaning the glass; it’s about transforming the way your customer experiences their surroundings. Considering the smart, correct placement of your solution bucket will help you to provide that perfect, professional window cleaning experience for your customer. The small things do make a difference!
